Independence In Your Home
Benefits of a Stairlift
A stairlift can transform daily life for those who struggle with the journey up or down the stairs. If you are disabled, elderly, or unsteady on your feet, the risk of falling down the stairs increases exponentially. Falls within the home account for more than half of deaths in the UK elderly population.
When you install a stairlift, you get to enjoy a safer day-to-day life while staying in the place you call home. The costs of moving houses, especially to a bungalow to avoid the hazard of stairs all together, are infeasible for many. Stairlifts allow you to circumvent that additional cost and hassle, while remaining safe in the home you love.

Pricing Up a Stairlift
The price of your stairlift will depend on a few factors, including the type you need and any additional upgrades you add. Modern Mobility carries a range of trusted stairlift models, so whatever your budget or requirements, we’re confident we can help.
If you’re looking for a more cost-conscious stairlift option, you can also buy a reconditioned stairlift, or even rent one if you only expect to need the stairlift for a limited amount of time.
Our extensive range of stairlifts Modern Mobility can start from as little as £1,500*, subject to survey, with installation costs being based on your location.
If your electric bill is a factor for concern when pricing up a stairlift, put your mind at ease. Stairlifts are much more energy efficient than you might assume. On average, it costs no more to run a stairlift than it does to boil the kettle once a day.
The Different Types
There are two primary types of stairlifts you will encounter when considering adding one to your home.
Straight stairlift – Perfect for staircases with no curves, corners, or bends.
Curved stairlifts – For stairlifts that deviate from the straight ‘up and down’ shape, including staircases with intermediate landings and bends.
There are a number of upgrades you can also make to your stairlifts, including a slide track, easy hinge, swivel seat, and zero intrusion. Read more about stairlift upgrades in our ultimate stairlift guide.
The Buying Process
To make the stairlift buying process simpler, we’ve broken it down into 5 simple steps:
- Research: Either online or by talking to a mobility advisor over the phone or in-store. See our Stairlifts page for a great starting point.
- Assessment: Your chosen mobility specialist should arrange a free home assessment to see what stairlift would best fit in your home. Future-proof your stairlift investment and look for a specialist that offers some kind of warranty and servicing.
- Commitment: When you’re ready, you can order and pay for the stairlift. This stage includes finalising exactly which product you’d like and signing the necessary paperwork. Find out more about your payment options here.
- Installation: Accredited technicians should deliver and install your stairlift on an agreed upon date. Make sure the mobility specialists you use are reputable to ensure proper quality and safe installation.
- Use and Upkeep: Your stairlift is now ready to use! Now you just need to sit back, relax, and enjoy the benefits. For advice on what to do once your stairlift is installed, see here.
Funding Your Stairlift
There are three main ways you can fund a stairlift in your home: Outright payment, finance, and a Disabled Facilities Grant.
At Modern Mobility, we do everything in our power to make our products and services affordable. If you are registered as disabled, or as living with a chronic health condition, you will qualify for disability VAT relief.
Through Snap Finance, you can enjoy a simple solution to spreading the cost on a range of our products over a term you choose, up to 48 months.
Alternatively, your local council may be able to assist in the funding of your stairlift through a Disabled Facilities Grant (DFG). Each council differs in how DFGs are assessed and awarded, but you will need a quote breaking down the costs associated with the home adaptation. Modern Mobility offers FREE home assessments with our friendly experts, with no obligation.
Once Your Stairlift Is Installed
Manufacturers recommend that your stairlift is serviced every 12 months. These annual services help prevent any excess wear to your lift and grant you peace of mind when using the lift for another year.
To protect your stairlift battery from draining, make sure your stairlift is never left off its charging point for too long. The stairlift charging points are positioned at either end of the track, and connect when the lift’s chair is parked correctly.
All of our stairlift experts are fully manufacturer-trained to not only survey your new stairlift, but to install and repair them as well.
