The Autochair Smart Lifter LC is a powered car boot hoist available with 80kg or 100kg lifting capacity, designed to help load a compatible wheelchair or mobility scooter into a suitable vehicle without manually lifting the mobility device.
Car Boot Hoist for Wheelchairs and Mobility Scooters
The Autochair Smart Lifter LC is designed to make travelling with a mobility device easier by taking care of the heavy lifting involved in loading and unloading it from a car boot.
Rather than manually lifting your wheelchair or mobility scooter, the Smart Lifter uses powered lifting and in/out movement to raise the mobility device from the ground and guide it into the vehicle.
The LC sits between the lighter-duty LM and higher-capacity LP models within the Autochair Smart Lifter range. It is available in two versions: the LC80 with an 80kg maximum lifting capacity and the LC100 with a 100kg maximum lifting capacity.

How Does the Smart Lifter LC Work?
Once professionally installed and set up, the Smart Lifter LC uses a four-way handset to control the movement of the hoist.
| UP | Raises the attached mobility device from the ground |
| DOWN | Lowers the mobility device towards the ground or vehicle floor |
| OUT | Moves the hoist and mobility device out from the vehicle |
| IN | Moves the hoist and mobility device back into the vehicle |
During loading, the mobility device is positioned beneath the spreader bar and securely connected to the appropriate lifting points. The hoist then raises the device, moves it towards the boot and allows it to be guided into position before being lowered onto the vehicle floor.
Professional installation required: Autochair specifies that the Smart Lifter must be installed by an Accredited Autochair Dealer or Autochair installer. The installation and lifting arrangement must be configured for the particular vehicle and mobility device.
LC80 vs LC100 Car Boot Hoists
The correct Smart Lifter LC depends primarily on the weight of the mobility device and compatibility with the vehicle.
| Model | Maximum Lifting Capacity | Typical Application |
| Smart Lifter LC80 | 80kg | Compatible lighter wheelchairs and mobility scooters |
| Smart Lifter LC100 | 100kg | Compatible wheelchairs and mobility scooters requiring greater lifting capacity |
The weight of your mobility device must not exceed the lifting capacity stated on the Smart Lifter. Accessories, larger batteries or other changes to your mobility device can increase its total weight and should be taken into account.
Designed Around Your Vehicle and Mobility Device
A car boot hoist is not a universal accessory that can simply be fitted to any vehicle. The Smart Lifter LC installation is configured around both the car and the mobility device being lifted.
Autochair uses vehicle-specific installation arrangements, with the hoist capable of being configured for left- or right-hand installation depending on the vehicle. The lifting setup is also adjusted so the mobility device can clear the boot opening and be positioned correctly inside.
The latest Autochair installation documentation also refers to dedicated and universal A-Frame mounting arrangements depending on the vehicle.
If you later change your wheelchair or scooter, do not assume the existing setup will automatically be suitable. Autochair advises checking compatibility with an Accredited Autochair Dealer before using the hoist with a different mobility device.
Built for Easier Loading and Unloading
The Smart Lifter LC removes the need to manually lift the full weight of a compatible mobility device into the boot. Autochair states that the Smart Lifter range can lift and load a mobility device in around 60 seconds once correctly installed and configured.
The LC also uses overcurrent protection. If the system detects excessive current — for example if the mobility device or spreader bar contacts an obstacle, or the lifting load is too high — power to the movement is temporarily cut.
Who Is the Smart Lifter LC Suitable For?
The LC range may be worth considering if:
- You regularly transport a wheelchair or mobility scooter by car
- Manually lifting the mobility device into the boot is difficult or impractical
- Your mobility device falls within the appropriate 80kg or 100kg lifting capacity
- Your vehicle is compatible with a suitable Autochair installation
- You want powered lifting and in/out movement controlled by a handset
For heavier powerchairs, mobility scooters or other mobility devices above the LC’s capacity, a higher-capacity Smart Lifter may be required.
Finding the Right Car Boot Hoist
The correct boot hoist depends on more than the weight of your wheelchair or scooter. Vehicle boot dimensions, opening clearance, mobility device dimensions, lifting points and the combined rating of the installation components all need to be considered.
