Karma i-Lite Transit Wheelchair

The Karma i-Lite is a lightweight transit wheelchair designed for occasional use where straightforward handling, folding and transportation are important.

As an attendant-propelled wheelchair, it uses smaller rear wheels rather than the large push-rim wheels found on a self-propelled model. Attendant brakes are fitted to provide control from the push handles.

Lightweight & Easy to Transport

Karma designed the i-Lite to fold quickly into a more compact package for transportation or storage. The wheelchair measures approximately 28cm wide when folded, compared with 58cm when open.

Removing the footrests reduces the wheelchair weight to approximately 9kg, making the chair easier to handle when loading or storing it.

17″ Seat & 115kg Capacity

The i-Lite has a 43cm (17″) seat and supports a maximum user weight of 115kg (18 stone). Its compact dimensions make it a practical option where a larger wheelchair is not required.

Attendant Brakes

Brake controls at the push handles allow the attendant to control the wheelchair during use. This is a transit model intended to be pushed by another person rather than propelled independently by the seated user.

Solid Wheels & Swing-Away Footrests

The i-Lite uses 8″ front and 12″ rear wheels with solid tyres, avoiding the need to maintain pneumatic tyre pressures.

Swing-away footrests provide useful clearance around the front of the wheelchair and can be removed when reducing the chair for transportation.

Three Frame Colours

Modern Mobility offers the Karma i-Lite in Blue, Red and Silver, each paired with black seating, wheels and castors.

Vehicle use: Karma lists the i-Lite as not crash tested. It should not be treated as an approved occupied wheelchair seat while travelling in a moving vehicle.

Using and Caring for the Karma i-Lite

The i-Lite is a lightweight folding transit wheelchair designed for occasional use. Basic checks before use and careful handling during folding and transportation can help keep the chair ready for use.

Before Use

• Make sure the wheelchair is fully unfolded before the user sits down.

• Check that the footrests are securely fitted before use.

• Check the solid tyres, wheels and castors for visible damage.

• Check that the attendant brakes operate correctly before setting off.

Attendant-Propelled Use

The i-Lite is a transit wheelchair and is intended to be pushed by an attendant. Brake controls are provided at the push handles for attendant use.

Preparing the Wheelchair for Transport

1. Make sure the wheelchair is unoccupied before folding or preparing it for storage.

2. Swing the footrests away or remove them when a smaller transport package is required.

3. Fold the wheelchair frame and backrest to reduce its stored dimensions.

4. Secure the folded wheelchair appropriately during transportation so it cannot move freely.

Solid Tyres

The i-Lite uses solid tyres, so there is no pneumatic tyre pressure to maintain. Inspect the tyres and wheels for visible wear or damage before use.

Storage

When not required, fold the wheelchair and store it in a suitable dry location where it will not be damaged or obstruct access.

Vehicle transport: Karma lists the i-Lite as not crash tested. Do not assume that it is suitable for occupied use as a wheelchair seat in a moving vehicle.
