The Drive Lightweight Powerstroll is an attendant-controlled power pack designed to add powered assistance to compatible manual wheelchairs. It helps reduce the effort required when pushing, particularly on suitable slopes, ramps and longer journeys.
Powered Assistance for a Manual Wheelchair
The Lightweight Powerstroll fits beneath a compatible manual wheelchair and provides powered assistance through twin drive wheels. It is controlled by the wheelchair attendant using a handle-mounted handset rather than by the wheelchair occupant.
This makes it a practical option for carers or attendants who want additional help when pushing a wheelchair, while allowing the wheelchair itself to remain a manual model.

Attendant-Controlled Handset
The handset attaches to a wheelchair push handle and provides the attendant with control over powered movement. It includes a throttle lever, forward and reverse selection and an adjustable maximum-speed dial.
Releasing the throttle returns the control to neutral and stops the Powerstroll, while the speed setting can be adjusted to suit the surroundings and the person operating the wheelchair.
Designed to Fit Many Manual Wheelchairs
The Lightweight Powerstroll is designed to fit many manual wheelchairs with seat widths from 14″ to 20″ and frame tubing approximately 2.2–2.5cm (7/8″–1″) in diameter.
A telescopic mounting bar allows the power pack to adapt across different compatible wheelchair widths, while adapter brackets are available for installations that require the bar to sit approximately 5cm (2″) lower.
Compatibility: The Powerstroll does not fit every wheelchair. Frame dimensions, wheelchair design and any existing attendant brakes or accessories can affect compatibility, so suitability should be confirmed before ordering.
Removable Battery Pack & Portable Design
The complete Powerstroll weighs 14kg with the battery fitted. The battery pack is removable, reducing the weight of the remaining power-pack unit to around 8kg for easier handling and transportation.
A lift-up strap also allows the drive wheels to be raised from the ground when the wheelchair needs to be pushed manually without powered assistance.

Lightweight Powerstroll Features
The Lightweight Powerstroll combines attendant controls, twin powered wheels and a removable battery pack in a compact unit designed to assist with pushing a compatible manual wheelchair.
Attendant-Controlled Operation
The handle-mounted handset allows the attendant to control powered movement from the wheelchair push handle.

Using and Caring for the Lightweight Powerstroll
The Powerstroll should be correctly fitted to a compatible wheelchair and operated only by an attendant who is familiar with its controls and limitations.
Before Each Use
1. Check that the Powerstroll is securely attached to the wheelchair.
2. Make sure both drive wheels are correctly positioned on the ground.
3. Check that the unit drives the wheelchair in a straight line.
4. Test the throttle and make sure it returns to neutral when released.
5. Confirm that releasing the throttle brings the Powerstroll to a stop.
Important: The Lightweight Powerstroll is attendant operated. It must not be used solely by the wheelchair occupant.
Using the Controls
Use the Power/Direction switch to select forward or reverse operation. After switching the unit on, allow approximately two seconds before squeezing the throttle.
Squeeze the throttle lever to move the wheelchair. Increasing pressure on the throttle increases powered speed, while releasing it returns the control to neutral and stops the Powerstroll.
The speed-adjustment dial controls the maximum available speed. Start at a lower setting when appropriate and only adjust the speed when the wheelchair is stationary.
Charging the Battery
1. Switch off the Powerstroll.
2. Disconnect the battery pack from the Powerstroll and lift it from the battery tray using its handle.
3. Connect the approved charger to the battery pack.
4. Switch on the mains power. The charger indicator will show orange while charging.
5. Allow around 8 hours for charging. Drive recommends approximately 12 hours for optimum battery performance.
6. When charging is complete, switch off the mains before disconnecting the charger.
Use only the approved charger and fully charge the battery before use.
Using the Powerstroll on Slopes
Approach inclines carefully and reduce the speed when necessary. Travel straight up or down an incline rather than diagonally or backwards.
Do not use the Powerstroll on slopes greater than its rated 6° maximum.
Outdoor Use & Wet Weather
Avoid rain, snow, ice, standing water, mud, loose gravel and other unsuitable surfaces wherever possible.
If the Powerstroll becomes wet, move to shelter and allow it to dry completely before operating, charging or storing it.
Manual Pushing
When powered assistance is not required, the lift-up strap can be used to raise the Powerstroll drive wheels from the ground so the wheelchair can be pushed manually.
Cleaning
Switch off and disconnect the Powerstroll from the mains before cleaning.
Use a damp cloth with mild soap or detergent to clean the frame, then dry it thoroughly. Do not clean the Powerstroll using direct contact with water.
Storage
Store the Powerstroll in clean, dry conditions with the power switched off. Protect it from moisture, dirt, dust and prolonged direct sunlight.
For long-term storage, fully charge and remove the battery. Drive advises charging the battery weekly during storage to help maintain battery condition.
Regular Checks
• Check electrical connections are secure and free from corrosion.
• Check the wheels and tyres for damage or uneven wear.
• Check for loose fasteners and fittings.
• Keep the unit clean and free from moisture.
• Stop using the Powerstroll if you notice unusual motor noise, damaged cables, broken connectors or other faults.
Stop using the Powerstroll if it is damaged or not operating as expected. Electrical and internal repairs should be carried out by appropriately authorised service personnel.
