Dual Motor Comfort with Independent Backrest and Legrest Control

The Sandfield Dual Motor Riser Recliner is designed for users who want more control over their seating position than a conventional single motor recliner can provide.

Its two motors operate the backrest and legrest independently, allowing you to raise your legs without fully reclining the back, recline the backrest separately, or combine both movements to find a more relaxed position.

What Does Dual Motor Mean?

A dual motor riser recliner uses separate powered mechanisms to control the backrest and legrest. This gives you more freedom to adjust the chair than many single motor designs, where the back and footrest move together in a more fixed sequence.

For example, you can raise the footrest while keeping the backrest relatively upright, recline the back independently, or combine both movements for a more relaxed position.

The handset also allows the chair to raise towards an almost standing position, helping reduce the effort needed when getting up from the chair.

Designed for Sitting, Reclining and Assisted Standing

The manufacturer illustrates several available positions, including a standard seated position, raised footrest, reclined position, seat-lift position and a more fully reclined relaxation position.

The Sandfield has a maximum chair rise of approximately 30°, helping bring the user forwards and upwards when preparing to stand.

Important: The chair should be returned to its seated position when not in use, and the surrounding area should always be kept clear while the rise and recline mechanism is operating.

Supportive Waterfall Back and Suedette Upholstery

The Sandfield uses a waterfall pillow-style backrest designed to provide cushioned support through the back and shoulders. Its suedette-style fabric provides a soft-touch finish and is available in a choice of colours including Blue, Brown, Cream, Green and Charcoal/Dove Grey depending on current stock.

The manufacturer states that the fabric cover meets BS5852 Part 1 and the foam inner meets BS5852 Part 2, Crib 5.

How Much Space Does the Sandfield Need?

The chair measures approximately 87cm deep when upright and extends to around 163cm when reclined.

Aidapt recommends leaving approximately 72cm / 28 inches behind the chair and at least 40cm in front so the lift and recline mechanism can move without obstruction.

Check your available space before ordering

The Sandfield is not a wall-hugging recliner. Make sure there is sufficient clearance behind and in front of the chair throughout its full range of movement.

Is the Sandfield Dual Motor Riser Recliner Right for You?

The Sandfield may be a good option if you want a powered recliner with more flexible positioning, particularly if independent control of the backrest and legrest is important.

Before choosing any chair, compare the seat width, seat height and seat depth with the user’s measurements. Correct chair sizing can affect comfort, posture and ease of getting in and out.

If you are unsure which riser recliner is suitable, visit a Modern Mobility store to compare available seating options and receive help choosing an appropriate size and style.

Check the seat measurements

The Sandfield has a 47cm seat width, 49cm seat depth and 53cm seat height. These measurements should be checked against the user rather than choosing a riser recliner on overall chair dimensions alone.

Product dimensions are based on Aidapt's Sandfield VG702 product specification. Manufacturer specifications may be subject to change.

Using the Sandfield Dual Motor Riser Recliner

Position the chair on a flat, level floor in a dry room and make sure there is sufficient clearance around it before using the powered rise and recline functions.

Positioning the Chair

The Sandfield requires space both behind and in front of the chair for safe operation.

Allow approximately 72cm / 28 inches behind the chair.

Allow at least 40cm in front of the chair.

Keep the chair on a flat, stable surface.

Make sure children, pets, furniture and other objects cannot enter the mechanism's movement area.

Using the Dual Motor Handset

The Sandfield handset allows the backrest and legrest to be adjusted independently.

Footrest raise: Raises the legrest while the button is held.

Footrest retract / seat lift: Retracts the footrest and, if held, continues into the chair's lift position.

Backrest recline: Lowers the backrest independently.

Backrest rise: Returns the backrest towards an upright position.

Combined raise: Raises the backrest, retracts the footrest and lifts the chair.

Combined recline: Reclines the backrest, raises the footrest and lowers the chair towards a more relaxed position.

Important: Take care to avoid trapping or pinching hands, feet or other body parts while the chair is moving. Keep children, pets and carers clear of the mechanism during operation.

Getting In and Out of the Chair

For assisted standing, bring the backrest into a suitably upright position before using the lift function. Continue operating the chair until it has raised enough to make standing easier. When sitting down, position yourself securely and lower the chair in a controlled manner. Avoid dropping heavily into the seat, as sudden impact can damage the chair or mechanism.

Using the Footrest

The footrest is designed to support the legs while sitting or reclining. Do not sit, stand or place heavy objects on the footrest. Aidapt advises that the footrest incorporates a spring-assisted design intended to help reduce injury or damage if it encounters an obstruction while lowering.

Before Each Use

Check the following:

• The area around and underneath the chair is clear.

• The power cable and adaptor show no obvious damage.

• The handset and handset cable are undamaged.

• The chair is positioned securely on a flat floor.

• Nothing is obstructing the footrest or recline mechanism.

• The chair operates smoothly without unusual movement or noise.

Cleaning and Upholstery Care

Disconnect the chair from the mains before cleaning. Use a soft cloth and very mild soap solution for routine cleaning, then wipe away any soap residue with a clean dry cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners, solvents such as benzene or thinner, or saturate the upholstery with water. Keep the Sandfield in a dry indoor environment and away from excessive heat, direct sunlight and high humidity.

Battery Backup

The chair includes a battery backup facility intended to allow the chair to operate during a power failure so the user can exit the chair. The manufacturer specifies that two 9V batteries are required and are not supplied with the chair. Following emergency use, the batteries should be replaced and checked periodically.

If the Chair Stops Working Correctly

Stop using the chair if the upholstery becomes badly damaged, electrical components are exposed, liquid is spilled onto the chair or the mechanism does not operate normally. There are no user-serviceable internal components. Repairs to the electrical or powered mechanism should be carried out by an appropriately trained technician. Contact or visit Modern Mobility if you need help with the operation, positioning or condition of your Sandfield riser recliner.

Sandfield Dual Motor Riser Recliner FAQs

Answers to common questions about the Aidapt Sandfield, including dual motor operation, chair dimensions, wall clearance and assisted standing.

A dual motor riser recliner uses separate powered mechanisms to control the backrest and legrest. This allows more independent adjustment than many single motor chairs, including raising the legs while keeping the backrest relatively upright.

Does the Sandfield help you stand up?

Yes. The powered rise function raises the chair towards an almost standing position to assist the user when getting up. The manufacturer specifies a maximum chair rise of approximately 30°.

Yes. The Sandfield's dual motor system allows independent adjustment of the backrest and legrest, as well as combined movements using the handset.

How much space does the Sandfield need behind it?

Aidapt recommends approximately 72cm / 28 inches of clearance behind the chair for unrestricted reclining. At least 40cm of clear space should also be left in front.

Is the Sandfield a wall-hugging recliner?

No. The Sandfield requires substantial clearance behind the chair when reclining, so it should not be treated as a wall-hugging riser recliner.

The Sandfield has a manufacturer-specified maximum user weight of 160kg / 25 stone.

Does the Sandfield have a battery backup?

Yes. The chair includes a battery backup facility for use during a power failure. Two 9V batteries are required and are not supplied with the chair.

What colours is the Sandfield available in?

Can I sleep in the Sandfield riser recliner?

The manufacturer's handset and positioning guide includes a deeply reclined “sleeping/relax” position. Whether the chair is suitable for prolonged sleeping for a particular user depends on individual comfort, mobility and care requirements.
