Designed Around Four Seating-Related Risk Factors

Sunrise Medical developed the Cryo Fluid system around four factors associated with wheelchair seating and skin protection: pressure, shear, temperature and moisture.

Pressure: the Cryo Fluid insert is designed to distribute pressure across the seating surface.

Shear: a 4-way stretch cover helps reduce shear forces between the cover and Cryo Fluid insert.

Temperature: Cryo Fluid actively draws heat away from the seated skin surface.

Moisture: reducing seated skin temperature can help reduce the likelihood of localised perspiration.

Configurable JAY Balance Platform

Cryo Fluid is one insert option available within the JAY Balance platform. JAY Balance can also be configured with JAY Flow Fluid or an air insert, allowing the seating system to be selected according to individual requirements.

Optional positioning components are also available to support pelvic and thigh positioning for different clinical applications.

Dual-Cover System

JAY Balance uses an inner and outer cover system designed to balance microclimate management with practical incontinence management. Microclimatic, Incontinence and Stretch cover options are available.

Looking for the standard JAY Balance?

The JAY Balance Cushion is also available with alternative insert configurations including Flow Fluid and air.

How JAY Cryo Fluid Works

Cryo Fluid uses a temperature-responsive insert to transfer heat away from the seated skin surface and distribute that heat throughout the fluid.

The Cooling Process

1. Cryo Fluid contains millions of microbeads filled with paraffin wax.

2. When seated skin is warmer than the ambient Cryo Fluid, heat transfers from the skin into the insert.

3. The paraffin wax inside the microbeads melts at a set temperature as it absorbs heat.

4. Graphite within the Cryo Fluid helps disperse the absorbed heat throughout the insert.

5. After the fluid returns to ambient temperature, the microbeads naturally re-solidify.

Designed for Mild Skin Cooling

Sunrise Medical states that Cryo Fluid is engineered to mildly cool the seated skin surface within a therapeutic temperature range of approximately 28°C–35°C.

A Long-Lasting Cooling Effect

Heat dispersion continues as the microbeads absorb heat and melt. Under Sunrise Medical's internal testing conditions at 25°C, the therapeutic cooling effect continued for up to eight hours.
